Looking for a fun Fall project and investigation for your students? The Pumpkin Project contains high interest tasks that will engage students in hands-on inquiry and problem solving! Students will engage in pumpkin word problems with math story mats, real pumpkin investigations, designing a jack-o-lantern with 2-D shapes, and several jack-o-lantern reasoning puzzles!

Description
There are 3 sections to this project: 1) Problem Solving 2) Real life pumpkin investigations 3) Geometry.
You can do all of the project or just work through one section. In the problem solving section, the students use a story mat to act out different problems. You can change the number choice to better match your students! In Real Life Investigations, the students need their own pumpkin and explore the math and science of their pumpkin through counting and comparing. In the geometry section, students can create their own pumpkin face and describe it using shapes and attributes! They can also use their knowledge of geometry to find which pumpkin matches a set of clues. Included is the teacher presentation if you want to present it the whole group and a google doc for the students to record their answers!
